In what should prove to be an exciting boost to Salt Spring Tourism, EcoThemeParks inc., announced today that work has started on Salt Spring Island's very first theme park. The main attraction will be an eco-coaster which thunders through a vibrant temperate rain forest setting on a track that makes use of the natural contours of the park-like grounds. This reduces the impact of construction and the eco-coaster will also make use of solar and micro-hydro power to hoist the riders to the top of the track, letting gravity do the rest. The coaster is just one attraction – with many more to be announced, hopefully including a 125 room eco resort.
A spokes person for ?EcoThemeParks said that "we are delighted that we have been allowed to start development on this venture in one of the most eco-friendly places in the world. Whilst we will obviously be having some environmental impact during construction including soil, tree and vegetation removal, we will be purchasing carbon offset credits to cover the full impact, and believe that the long term impact will be a net win for all. This is a whole new paradigm in eco-tourism."
Thats fantastic news!!! Looking forward to riding the much anticipated eco-coaster that I’ve heard is to be called the “Steel Panther”.
I’ve heard through the grape vine that the name originated from its construction material (Steel) and the fact that if you don’t ride it, your considered to be a huge pussy (Panther). Brilliant!
