Ok so for those of you who don't recognise the title – check out this vintage BBC Not the Nine O'Clock news – very early Rowan Atkinson
Anyway – as promised in my last post this week I did indeed head off to get myself a big truck (well not that big, but bigger than I have ever driven). Then we headed off to the IKEA warehouse to pick up 1350KG of new IKEA kitchen, drove it back to Salt Spring, unloaded it and took the truck back. This epic covered 3 days, 6 ferry rides and a few meals 'on the road'. Now the kitchen is mainly piled up in boxes in our dining room (well its not a dining room anymore unless you want to have diner sitting at a pile of IKEA boxes). It is nice to have the new fridge though. We have been living out of a bar fridge for a while – for those of you still in the UK that is a normal size fridge with the little ice box at the top. How on earth do people in the UK manage…
Anyway to get all of this into the house was a bit of a challenge – I spent last week finishing off the new washroom at the end of my hallway – which included blocking up the existing entrance to the house (as it involved walking through the new bathroom which didn't seem totally convenient or sanitary). Once that was all signed off by the inspectors I then had 1 day to rip out enough of the old bathroom (door, sink, toilet, bath) to get to the wall to cut a hole in it to make the new entrance to the house! Otherwise the only way in was round the house and up the steps onto the deck. Here is Emma helping to make the hole in the wall!
Anyway it all got done – just in time as usual, and now its on to the new kitchen. That's ripping out the old kitchen, re-finishing the floor, ripping out the rest of the old bathroom and building and installing the new kitchen. No Prolemo!
Spot on. Who doesn’t like a good truck?
