I can have a really good laugh about this because – well – I wasn't driving.
Our truck got axle-deep in a wet field and we had to shell out $100 to get towed out!
So, the story goes, we headed out to a friend's place for free compost (aka rotted down horse manure). Yes, we must be real Salt Springers now as we were excited about free dung…
And after being carefully instructed NOT to tear up their hayfield, and to avoid certain parts of the field because they were wet, we completely dug the truck into the ground!
So, we've just shovelled a load of manure/compost into the back of the pickup. We try to dig the truck out and use wood chippings – but to no avail.
Then our friends try to give us a tow out with their truck – just spinnin' wheels! And that's AFTER we've emptied all the manure we'd shovelled into the truck to make it lighter. And THEN when that didn't work and we called a tow truck, we shovelled all the manure BACK into the pick-up AGAIN.
That evening I was exhausted. It was time for some hot-tub action to ease the aching muscles and then a hard days digging on Sunday as we plant out a (hardy) nectarine tree, 5 currant plants (black and red), 5 grape plants, 2 native hazelnuts, a half-price rhododendron and 2 creeping blueberries.
All nicely fertilized with our newly acquired compost.
Thanks Sacha and Dave for being SO understanding!
I know where you learnt those wicked driving skills Dunc. Its kind of amusing that you were carrying a load of sh1t.
