Deer fencing finally complete!!!
Hurrah! Finally the deer-fencing is complete and we can grow stuff! Sadly it wasn't quite soon enough for many of our bulbs this year – but hurrah anyway!
AND, we can let Dexter off-leash without him disappearing off after a deer-scent. This is pretty major for us, because on Salt Spring if your dog is found worrying livestock the farmer is entitled to shoot the dog. And it does happen.
Most of the property has been fenced with wooden posts and metal mesh fencing wire. Thanks to Ryan of Bradley Excavation – he did an amazing job!
Then, a short run of deer-fencing either side of our car gate and visible from the house and road has been fenced with cedar posts and fenceboards – most of which are from the two cedars we had taken down before Christmas to let in more light. So, the trees have 'come home'. We think it looks quite cool with irregular height fenceboards which Duncan put up!
We designed a gate with Woodpeckers on – it is a metal frame and is just waiting for a wood border to go around the outside. Thanks Doug of Heritage Gates! So, not quite finished, but this is how it looks at the moment. Can you spot the carpenter ant (the featured woodpecker's favourite food
Finally a little stretch of Salt Spring fencing (a garage will be going in here – hence the temporary fencing).
