Something’s eating my house!!!
Woo-hoo – I’m here! After just over a year of planning and wheeler-dealing we finally made it to live – full-time – on our island paradise of Salt Spring.
Loaded with bags of stuff, I step into our little sunroom and take a breath. I look out the window and there is a deer and two spotted fawns to welcome me. Nature on our doorstep! So I thought, just before it goes dark I’ll take a walk around our cute little cottage.
Yikes! Sawdust! Well the technical name is frass but it looks like sawdust… We had some great escapades last Summer with carpenter ants (removing the side of the house and discovering a HUGE ants nest in our insulation that looked like Swiss cheese). This is just what we need moving in… So, I put out some ant powder to kill the critters – and immediately feel a surge of guilt.
Oh the joy of living more closely with nature – I’m really going to have to get better at death.
PS. That night the ants ate our house so loud that when I went to the bathroom it sounded like it was raining! Munch Scrunch Munch. Eek! I fall asleep and dream of an army of marching ants eating everything in their path. Take a look at the Carpenter Ant photo album…
