So as I said in a previous post – the cottage is all signed off – yay. But what to do next. Take a vacation? Get a massage? Spend a week drinking beer, sitting in the hot tub and playing Rock Band?
Nope!
How about starting two new projects. Thanks to the helping hands of Rod and his father Peter, Das BrauHausis well under way. Basically we have been knocking out some pretty decent batches of home brew beer in a small but dedicated 'Beer Club' (now that is a whole other blog I think…). But it has always been in a kitchen, hallway, basement etc. So the plan is to make our pumphouse into a fully featured brewing operation. This involves insulating the walls, putting in a sink, re-wiring and lots of other bits and pieces. Watch this space for more details as we near B-Day (brewing day) at Das BrauHaus!
And as that is going so well we decided it's time to rip the kitchen out of our house (and put a new one in!) After the success of the kitchen in the cottage, we were encouraged to go with the IKEA solution again. After a couple of slightly frantic trips to the mainland, and a couple of solid days using the IKEA kitchen planner (see the picture over there —>), and some more super-efficient help from the IKEA kitchen hosts in the store, we have a new kitchen on order. Thanks to the IKEA marketing department we also got 20% back in IKEA gift cards – NICE! The only hitch so far is that the order weighs in at a whopping 1300 kg!!!! This means that it would cost $800 to get IKEA to deliver it to Salt Spring, and it ain't going in the back of my F150! So at some point soon we will be hiring a bigger truck and rocking over to the IKEA warehouse - I am sure another blog post will follow….
