That’s Not Ferry Nice!
So, one important factor about "Island Life" is – of course – that if you want to go anywhere other than Salt Spring you’re dependent on BC Ferries… (Or a float plane – I can write about that once I’ve been in one!)
I’ve just moved here and it’s time to leave already! I DON’T want to! I only just got here!
Still, I know I’ll enjoy myself speaking at The Every Woman in the World conference in Whistler (www.everywomanintheworld.com) It’s right up my street – empowering women through doing new things, helping them learn from and inspire each other!
So, it’s off to the 9am ferry from Vesuvius on Salt Spring to Crofton on Vancouver Island. Then a 45 minute drive to Nanaimo to catch a ferry to Vancouver.
Predictably I get to Vesuivuis and – it’s a BC Ferry – so it’s running late. 20 mins late by the time we get to the other side and despite a good run to Nanaimo, I am told on arrival I may not get on. I didn’t book because I didn’t expect it to be busy at 10.30 am on Thursday. WRONG! In fact the brand new (30% larger capacity) ferry was full – and I didn’t get on by FIVE cars!! Aaaaaaaagh!
So, as a lifecoach, it’s important to me to keep working on myself and making my life easier. So it’s deep breath time and true to Ecky’s wise words (Eckhart Tolle who wrote "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth") I decide NOT to resist reality.
Yes – I can accept the situation and let go of the frustration… or I can sit here and fume that "It was a BC Ferry being late that made me miss my next BC Ferry! Aaaaaaagh."
So of course I did a bit of both. We start with the "Aaaaaaagh! and move onto spending the 2 hour wait cancelling my haircut which I was totally looking forward to (I know, no-one else can tell the difference anyway), rearranging appointments, adding contacts to my new Salt Spring cellphone and catching up with Vancouver-based friends…
