So, to make our alcohol budget go a little further we thought we would make some of our own – starting with blackberry wine. But we seem to have got a bit carried away…
This is a list of the alcohol currently in progress:
- Blackberry wine. 5 gallons – or approximately 30 bottles.
We're following a recipe. Made from our own blackberries. Ready September 2009. - Riesling. 5 gallons – or approximately 30 bottles.
Currently maturing at a wine-making place on Salt Spring. You start the process by adding the yeast and they look after it for you until it's ready, then we have to go and bottle it. From a kit. Ready end November 2008 (hurrah – soon!) - Merlot. 5 gallons – or approximately 30 bottles.
From a kit we bought at the supermarket, made at home. Ready (hopefully) for Christmas 2008. Apparently improves on being left to mature. It's a kit wine, we'll have to see about that… - Canadian Blonde Beer. 5 gallons – or approximately 72 stubbies.
From a supermarket kit, made at home. Ready this week (November 2008). - Alcoholic Apple Cider. 4 gallons – or approximately 60 stubbies.
From our own apples and from a recipe. Ready early December 2008.
That's nearly 25 gallons of alcohol! But this weekend, we didn't have any alcohol to drink with dinner…
Party anyone???
